Dwarka Expressway & Cloverleaf, Anticipated to Open on 29th February

After numerous missed deadlines, the Gurgaon district administration is optimistic about the opening of Dwarka Expressway and its cloverleaf on 29th February. Seeking relief for the thousands residing in new sectors, the district administration has formally requested the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to expedite the process.

Completion and Anticipation: Work on the city section of the expressway is nearly complete, raising hopes for the imminent opening. The cloverleaf, a critical connection between the high-speed corridor, NH-8, and the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), has been eagerly awaited for years. The delay has been a cause for concern, with the administration now anticipating a positive response from NHAI.

Safety Audits and Concerns: The district administration has not only requested the opening of the expressway but has also urged NHAI to conduct safety audits of national highways passing through the city. Recent incidents of cave-ins on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Subhash Chowk and NH-8 at IFFCO Chowk have raised concerns, prompting the administration to seek the intervention of an independent agency for safety assessments.

Project Background: Originally envisioned by the Haryana government in 2006, NHAI took over the Dwarka Expressway project in 2016, initiating construction in 2019. Despite a planned two-year deadline, the project has faced persistent delays, missing over a dozen deadlines. The cloverleaf, despite being barricaded, has already become a preferred route for many commuters due to its accessibility to NH-8 and other parts of the city.

Traffic Scenario: The closed cloverleaf, in its current state, witnesses high-speed traffic moving in both directions as commuters seek more convenient routes between new sectors and NH-8. The impending opening is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and provide a crucial link for the city's residents.

As the Gurgaon district administration awaits NHAI's response, the opening of Dwarka Expressway and its cloverleaf on 29th February would mark a significant milestone in addressing long-standing concerns and enhancing connectivity in the region.
